"I want my paintings to
catch the eye but also the feelings of the viewer. I am looking to
settle awkwardness in my paintings. I believe awkwardness can
create uneasy or calming feelings, humor or despair depending on
the painting. But I want this feeling to be personal to each viewer
as the subject matter of the paintings is the human body (which we
all have) as a container of very personal energies and
feelings. The choice of colours
has always been very spontaneous for me. However, the use of bright
colours is very significant in my work. I believe it plays a role
of seduction but also emphasizes the sense of awkwardness in the
piece, as colours are in any case related to the subject matter. If
the composition of each painting is previously planned, the colours
are not chosen before they actually need to be layered on the
canvas."
