Chris Kettle "In-box" Dyptich print

CK_RoseLeft

The inspiration for 'inbox' is drawn from Dutch still life painting of the 17th century, namely those of Jan Davidsz de Heem.

The beautifully painted silver chalices of the 'Old Masters' emitting glowing spirits, prompt comparisons with modern technology and a kind of 'cyber loneliness'  associated with unreadable symbols such as the bar code, or in this case a print code.
The looming presence of a rose with it's long history of romance suggests longing,as does the text 'no new messages', but in the end, the symbolism and imagery in this piece, as with still life's in the past, is open to personal interpretation.
